Weekly Schedule
Something new each Saturday.
Life, the universe and my circumstances permitting.
I'm focusing on 'family stories' at the moment. ("A Change of Pace: Family Stories" (11/23/2024))- Category: Family Stories

But if something else caught and held my interest during the week, that's what I'll share.

Holy Week: Staying Home
Holy Week starts tomorrow. Together with Easter, it’s the high point of the Catholic calendar. I’d be going to Our Lady of the Angels — the parish church — on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday AKA Holy Thursday, Good Friday and … Continue reading
Changing My Daily Prayers
I read David Torkington’s “The Resolution to end all Resolutions” and started a new prayer routine three years ago. My starting point was Lauds and Vespers from Liturgy of the hours. Don’t be too impressed. Lauds was recognizable after my … Continue reading
New on Blogroll+ — Word on Fire Catholic Ministries
I finished reading “Letter to a Suffering Church” this weekend. It’s Bishop Robert Barron’s discussion of the sexual abuse scandal that’s been momentarily eclipsed by election-year sturm und drang. And that’s a topic for another day. Topics. The book’s publisher … Continue reading
Jesus Didn’t Stay Dead
We relive events from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday in close to real time. Our Lord was arrested Thursday night. The Sanhedrin, Pilate and Herod had questioned Jesus by Friday morning. I get the impression that none of Jerusalem’s authorities … Continue reading
A Goal for Lent
Lent starts March 6 this year. It’s a time for abstinence, prayer and penance, among other things, which is why we’ve got rules about Fridays and fish. Following “fish” rules to the letter, I could splurge on lobster thermidor each … Continue reading
