Thanks for visiting Web Sites in This Area!
Over the years, I've found and organized the websites of many businesses and
organizations in central Minnesota, focusing on the needs and interests of folks
visiting this region. This page became too big to handle the hundreds of stores,
theaters, museums, brew pubs, or whatever, with at least a page or two on the
Web.
Now there's something better:
- More websites
- Organized by region and type of organization, business, or service
- Covering all of Minnesota and part of North Dakota
There's a new directory in town, called
Minnesota for Web-Wise
Travelers.
(No longer online: it was a good idea that didn't work out.)
Minnesota for Web-Wise Travelers is designed for folks who want to
check out stores, theaters, museums, brew pubs, or whatever, before they travel
to or through an area.
It's a growing directory of businesses, organizations, and towns with one
thing in common: they're interested enough in Web-savvy folks to have created a
website.

What is "This Area?"
Most of these Web sites are from
the area I call Centerland, with St. Cloud near one end and
Fargo-Moorhead near the other. The north side runs by Little Falls, Park
Rapids and Detroit Lakes, the south side is near Willmar, Benson and
Wahpeton-Breckenridge. It is centered on the I-94 corridor, starting
about an hour northwest of the Twin Cities in Minnesota and ending
around Fargo, North Dakota.
To
organize this page, I divided Minnesota into four areas:
- Minnemetro, the area from the Twin
Cities metropolitan area to near St. Cloud
- Loonland, the northern part of
Minnesota
(includes Flatland, Lakeland, and Oreland on the map)
- Grainland, the agricultural
southern part of the state
- Centerland, an area where the
grasslands of the south become the lake-spattered woods of the
north.
Loonland has three parts: Flatland (the Red River Valley), Lakeland
(the northern part of Minnesota lake country), and Oreland (the
Arrowhead region).
Descriptions of links involving places outside Centerland are
followed by a marker:
,
,
, and
.
You'll notice a few links to locations and services in North Dakota.
The locations are in the Red River Valley, very near the Minnesota
border. The services are travel information sites which I included,
because of North Dakota's proximity to "Centerland" and "Loonland."
Finally, something of a disclaimer: There is nothing official about
the terms Minnemetro, Loonland, Grainland, Centreland, Flatland,
Lakeland, or Oreland. I made them up, and defined their boundaries, to
help present the links on this page.
