Even before my wife and I
escaped our first cricket-infested apartment, we dreamed
of owning our own house. In 1989 a big old
house came up for sale. In a large city a place like this
would have been out of our reach, probably selling for at
least double its price here in Sauk Centre. Good
neighbors help make this place special. A few years after we moved in, a man who lives at the other end of our block asked
me if I'd let him mow our yard. I found out that he mows
a number of yards around here, doing the work because he
wants the neighborhood to look nice. We'd heard people
complain about how their area looks before: This man was doing something
about it. We're doing the job ourselves now: that's one of the up sides
of having teenagers in the family.
