We planned and budgeted for this years back, and this is the day when it all came together. Nearly all: there&#8217;s some finishing work that&#8217;ll wait until temperatures get and stay warmer. Good news: the north room will be considerably less drafty, and our heating costs should go down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One slight down side: the windows now have screens, which is fine for me. But this webcam now looks through a screen. My son and I may find a workaround, eventually, but for now I&#8217;m just glad that this job is (nearly) done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"National Weather Service 7-Day Forecast for Sauk Centre, Minnesota.\" src=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=45.73270000000008&amp;lon=-94.95187499999997#.XwZUUOd7mM8\" width=\"60%\" height=\"600\" align=\"right\"><\/iframe>You&#8217;re seeing part of Sauk Centre&#8217;s south side, about halfway between the Interstate and downtown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"my\"><\/a><span style=\"color: #800000;\">* My webcam, YouTube and this page are usually on speaking terms.<br><span style=\"color: #800000;\">* <\/span>Sometimes they&#8217;re not.<br><span style=\"color: #800000;\">* <\/span>I&#8217;m not checking the webcam 24\/7,<br>so it may be an hour or so before I reset the connection.<br><span style=\"color: #800000;\">* <\/span>But I do check in at least a few times each day.<br><span style=\"color: #800000;\">* <\/span>Thanks for watching!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I moved the webcam about a foot to your right in 2020, I didn&#8217;t jot down exactly when, so that a bush wouldn&#8217;t fill a third of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Good news, the bush no longer obstructs your view.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Not-so-good news, summer leaves pulled a tree&#8217;s branches down: obstructing the top third of your view, and then some.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Lowering the webcam would have it looking through the window&#8217;s screen.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">I&#8217;ve been thinking about solutions to the &#8216;summer leaves&#8217; issue. Without success, so far. (&#8220;My corner of small town America: Sauk Centre, Minnesota&#8221;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the webcam is offline, I will have it working again as soon as I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on what happened, that could take minutes, days \u2014 or longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brendans-island.com\/blogsource\/20181226ff\/20181227-1502-Webcam-329-copr.jpg?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" align=\"right\">I&#8217;d call this a &#8216;live stream,&#8217; but at best it&#8217;s what the webcam sent a few seconds ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube&#8217;s service, this blog&#8217;s WordPress software and my computer&#8217;s system cooperate: but at an unhurried pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sauk Centre is on Interstate 94, halfway between Minneapolis and Fargo, North Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The webcam looks north and west from a window near my desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"my\"><\/a>My Sauk Centre Webcam is Back: For Now<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brendans-island.com\/blogsource\/20190916ff\/201911111530-BackOnline-329.jpg?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" align=\"right\">November 11, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This webcam is online again: for the moment, at any rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I may or may not have uncovered and corrected whatever was keeping you \u2014 and me \u2014 from viewing my webcam through YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether it keeps running for minutes, days, or (I hope) much longer remains to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many frustrating months of technical issues may be over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"glitchy\"><\/a>Glitchy, Again: or Still<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Late 2018-November 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YoutTube&#8217;s system seems to think I&#8217;m trying to record my webcam&#8217;s feed. And won&#8217;t show the &#8216;recording:&#8217; to me or anyone else, apparently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There may or may not be a solution to the SNAFU with YouTube. Either way, I can&#8217;t coax the system to showing you anything from Sauk Centre&#8217;s south side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There probably is a solution.
